The Wyze Cam v2 is shockingly affordable. If you’d asked how much we thought this cam would cost, we’d say maybe $50? Try half that.

You’ll pay only about $25 for the Wyze Cam v2, and it’s more than worth your money. This little camera comes packed full of features we see in much more expensive models. As far as cheap home security cameras go, the Wyze Cam v2 leads the pack.

Wyze Cam v2 features

The Wyze Cam v2 has all the basic features we expect in a security camera.

The Wyze Cam v2 checks a lot of boxes on our feature list. It gives you 1080p resolution, also known as Full HD. It also comes with standards like two-way audio, night vision, and motion detection.

Wyze doesn’t stop with just the basics, even for such a cheap camera. Oh no, the Wyze Cam v2 also gives you adjustable motion zones and an option for (free) continuous video recording. The camera can even listen for your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors and send you a push notification if it hears them going off.

Wyze Cam v2 features:

  • 1080p resolution
  • Magnetic base
  • 110º field of view
  • 8x digital zoom
  • Night vision
  • Two-way audio
  • Motion detection
  • Cloud storage
  • Local storage
  • Event-based recording
  • Continuous video recording (with local storage)
  • Time-lapse creation
  • Motion zones
  • 32º F to 104º F (0º C to 40º C) operating temperature
  • Smoke alarm and CO detector listening
  • Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and IFTTT integration

Both local and cloud storage

A lot of higher-end cameras these days offer only cloud storage, which is all fine and good except that you usually have to pay extra for it. If you opt for a camera like the Nest Cam IQ Indoor, you’re going to need to subscribe to an extra monthly plan if you want to review your camera footage a few days later.

But the Wyze Cam v2 gives you both cloud storage and local storage options. Plus, Wyze gives you 14 days’ worth of cloud storage for free. Not a bad deal, in our opinion.

As for local storage, the Wyze Cam lets you use a microSD card to store footage. And if you opt to use a microSD card, you can also set the camera to record 24/7 so that you get continuous video coverage.

FYI
Megaphone

You'll be limited to event-based recording if you opt to use cloud storage with your Wyze Cam v2. This means your camera will record in short clips and only if it detects motion.

Smoke alarm and CO detector listening

We wouldn’t expect the Wyze Cam v2 to come with any AI features at such a cheap price point. But this little champ includes one smart feature: smoke alarm and CO detector listening.

The camera itself cannot detect smoke or tell if there’s carbon monoxide in your house. But what it can do is listen for the sound of your smoke alarm going off or your carbon monoxide detector blaring. And if it hears that, it will let you know through a push notification on your phone. This feature is a nice little extra for disaster-prevention and peace of mind.

Wyze Cam v2 pricing

This camera won’t break the bank.

The Wyze Cam v2’s pricing speaks for itself. It costs less than $30 ($25.98 at the time of this writing). By security camera standards, that’s super cheap. Amazingly cheap. Incredibly cheap. And did we mention it’s cheap?

For the price, we’d forgive some low-quality features in the Wyze Cam v2. But this device delivers a surprisingly good experience, all things considered.

Wyze Cam v2 home automation

The Wyze Cam v2 gives you smart speaker integrations and IFTTT.

The Wyze Cam v2 has some standard smart home features. It integrates with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and IFTTT. If you’re an Apple HomeKit devotee, you’ll need to look elsewhere. (Might we suggest the Arlo Pro 3.) But you’ll probably pay much more than you would for this little cam.

Wyze Cam v2 installation

Installation is easy and takes just a few minutes.

Installation is a cinch with the Wyze Cam v2. You just download the Wyze app and add the camera to your account. After that, mounting the camera is even easier. It comes with a magnetic base, which makes it easy to mount on metal surfaces. It also comes with an adhesive stick-on, so you can put this thing on walls, ceilings, or shelves.

The camera is also easily adjustable, so whether you put it on a wall or a table, you can point the lens where you need it to go.

Wyze Cam v2 installation steps:

  1. Download the Wyze app.
  2. Create an account.
  3. Select the option to add the camera.
  4. Scan the QR code on the camera body.
  5. Mount the camera where you want it.

Recap: Is Wyze Cam v2 good?

The Wyze Cam v2 gives you good features at a great price

For the price, the Wyze Cam v2 is exceptionally good. For such a cheap camera, we don’t expect much, but the Wyze Cam v2 delivers in a big way. You’ll get standard security camera features like two-way audio and night vision, plus extras like smoke alarm listening and voice assistant integration.

Features: The Wyze Cam v2 comes with a lot of features for its price. It has HD resolution, local and cloud storage, night vision, two-way audio, and that’s just the start.

Pricing: The price doesn’t get much better than this. The Wyze Cam v2 will cost you only 30 bucks.

Home automation: The Wyze Cam v2 works with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and IFTTT. It does not integrate with Apple HomeKit.

Installation: Installation is super easy, and the Wyze Cam’s magnetic mount option makes it especially easy to set on metal surfaces.

Overall, we don’t have much bad to say about the Wyze Cam v2. If you don’t mind shelling out (a lot) more cash for a different camera, you can get premium features, like facial recognition, package detection, and 4K resolution. But for what it is, we think the Wyze Cam is a great value.
