We’ve got a lot to say about Visible Wireless. But first, let’s answer the question:

Should you switch to Visible Wireless?

The short answer is yes, if you want a cheap and convenient unlimited data plan with great coverage and hotspot data. But wait a second. The carrier does have one big issue that might turn some people away: slower data speeds.

We’ll go over all of the questions you should ask yourself before deciding to switch to Visible. Hopefully by the end of this article you’ll know whether the carrier is right for you.

Do you like Visible’s Unlimited Plans?

Visible offers two cell phone plans, a base unlimited plan, and a premium unlimited plan. The only difference between the two plans is the guaranteed 50 GB of high-speed data you get with the Visible+ option. Either option offers great value for the price, especially compared to unlimited plans from major carriers.

Sure, other discount carriers, like Mint Mobile, offer amazing value on limited-data plans. But when it comes to unlimited data plans, Visible probably offers the most bang for your buck.

There are a couple reasons that we like Visible’s plans. For one, it gives you truly unlimited data (you won’t get reduced to 3G speeds after 35 GB of use, like on Boost Mobile and other carriers). Go ahead and stream music and video to your heart’s content!

If you go with the Visible+ option, you won't even need to worry about the typical data throttling that comes with every prepaid carrier. With the base unlimited plan, you might find your data speeds grinding to a halt when you walk into a crowded grocery store. The Visible+ plan gives you premium data for around $15/month cheaper compared to similar plans from major carriers.

Another reason we appreciate this plan is the mobile hotspot data, which brings us to the next question.

Do you use your phone as a mobile hotspot?

Big companies, like Verizon Wireless and AT&T, will give you mobile hotspot data on their premium plans. But it's rare to find this perk on discount plans. But, lo and behold, Visible’s Unlimited Data Plan lets you use unlimited hotspot data. Nice.

That means you can use your phone as a mobile internet connection anywhere you have sufficient service. Yep, that could be you streaming an episode of Bridgerton on your laptop during your layover.

There is one catch: your hotspot data speed will be capped at 5 Mbps. That should still be enough speed for basic streaming, but it may not be enough for super-fast gaming or HD video.

Do you want to be on Verizon’s network?

Visible Wireless is a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), which means that it doesn’t actually run its own wireless network. Instead, the company uses Verizon’s wireless network to bring service to its customers.

The question is, do you want to be on Verizon’s network?

If you like having full bars pretty much everywhere you go, then the answer is yes. Verizon has the best 4G LTE coverage in the country and it is quickly rolling out super fast 5G infrastructure as well. The network’s data speeds aren’t half bad either.

An infographic ranking wireless networks by speed: #1 T-Mobile, #2 Verizon, #3 AT&T, Sprint unranked because it was acquired by T-Mobile in 2020

Do you have friends and family that want to bundle with you?

Visible’s individual unlimited plan is a good deal. But if you really want maximum savings you’ll want to bundle up and use “Party Pay.” In fact, we think Visible has the best family plan in the industry, hands down.

You can add up to three extra lines to your account, and with each line you add the price goes down. Once you’re at four lines it’s just $25 a line. Yep, that’s $100 for four lines with unlimited talk, text, and data. We dare you to find a better deal.

Are you okay with having slower mobile data?

We’ll be honest: this is not a trivial issue. It is by far the biggest downside of choosing Visible.

While Verizon’s extensive 4G LTE network is capable of delivering data speeds at 30+ Mbps, Visible customers will see much lower speeds. That’s because their data is being deprioritized by the network.

Visible customers will generally see speeds of 5–12 Mbps. That’s enough for most casual users. You can easily stream music or standard definition video with that bandwidth. But if you’re trying to upload a big document or watch HD video you might get frustrated.

Going 5G with Visible Wireless

One way that you can get better speeds with Visible is to upgrade to a 5G phone. Visible has recently expanded their plan to include 5G coverage (in available areas). That’s pretty awesome for a discount carrier. With 5G coverage through Visible your speeds can go up to 200 Mbps.

Are you interested in buying a new phone?

Visible Wireless might be able to hook you up with a brand new device for an awesome price. The company has payment plans and promotional deals (like $200 gift cards when you buy new Apple and Samsung devices).

Here’s a quick look at some of the most popular cell phones that Visible is selling right now.

Is Visible Wireless right for you?

We’ve covered all the major questions you should ask yourself before switching to Visible Wireless. Now it’s up to you to decide. Is Visible right for you?

If you’re still on the fence, maybe Visible’s offer of a $100 Prepaid Mastercard Virtual Account will convince you to go ahead and sign up. Either way, thanks for trusting us to help you make your decision.
